I WONDER WHY
He did it again. I guess you might be wondering
who did it and what it was he did. The story starts a long time ago. Exactly
fifty-four years ago.
Fifty-four years ago today, August 25, 1950, Bill and I were married. I spoke of that in my first article on Pat's Page. But I did not say anything about our ceremony. It was at Riverside Baptist Church in Houston. Neither of us were members, but it was close to my parents home and did not have a very large sanctuary. One of the songs we chose was "Saviour Like A Shepherd Lead Us". This was the desire of our hearts.
Last Sunday the first song sung in our morning service was "our" song. Over the years many times God has had our music director (with no prior knowledge) choose that as a congregational song on the Sunday or Wednesday closest to our anniversary. It always surprises us but brings us such joy and a new awareness of how much He loves us.
When we moved to where we live now, He did it for several years in a row. At that time we began to look expectantly to see if He would do it again. One year our special day came on Sunday. Our song was not sung in the morning service and there was to be no evening service because we were having the dedication of our new worship center in the afternoon. We thought "The Lord is not going to do it again this year." At the dedication service, there was a violin special. You've already guessed it. The lady's selection was "Saviour Like A Shepherd Lead Us". We were overwhelmed.
We often wonder why God has done this for us. I don't know. We certainly don't deserve it. Being a preacher and his wife does not make us special. We are just two more sinners saved by His grace. I do know the Lord does special things for all His children each day and we need to be grateful for every blessing He sends our way.
I have been studying Psalm Twenty-three which will be the subject of the next ladies Bible study that I will lead. I have been reminded again that I am a sheep but also that "The Lord is my shepherd". My prayer continues to be "Saviour Like A Shepherd Lead Us".
