EXPERIENCES

      We live in a world where many Christians are looking for "experiences" with the Lord. They hear of some experience another Christian had and they long for the same or a similar one. They are the kind of people who are up one day and down the next. They are always going from one special event to another in search of something more.

      Some of our false teachings today come from people who have had "experiences." What has happened often contradicts God's Word, but the person will reply, "I know this is true because I have experienced it." Let me suggest that Satan also can produce experiences, so we need to measure them against the truth in God's Word.

      I remember a time when I was on this roller coaster. We were having a lay renewal weekend in our church. The team leading in the weekend came from other churches. They were sharing about their walk with the Lord. I began to want what they had. As I was having a quiet time with the Lord, I began to pray that God would give me "experiences" like they had or like others I had heard about. As clearly as I have ever heard God speak, He said "I will give you the experiences I want you to have." With that came new freedom.

      The Christian life is not supposed to be a life of up one day and down the next. That does not mean there will never be high points and low points, but for a child of God the daily walk with the Lord is to be a walk of obedience. When we awaken each morning we need to be aware of His presence and get our directions from Him through His Word and through prayer. He has a will in every thing I do: what I eat, what I wear, what I say, where I go and when I go. Nothing is too small for Him. He wants to be Lord (master) of all of my life. He won't force me, but is waiting for me to yield to Him in every area of my life.

          Proverbs 3:5-6 says,

          Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
          and lean not on your own understanding;
          In all your ways acknowledge Him,
          and He shall direct your paths.

      Trust and obey - goals for my life. Will you join me?
